The availability of funds for this program will be directly proportional to the donations received for the program. All funds will be allocated based on need and a limited number of appointments available. This program requires a $27 copay per pet to be paid to NOKHS before receiving an appointment. It helps cover some or all of the cost of spay/neuter surgery, for income-qualified pet owners. The Low Income Spay/Neuter Program was created to assist residents in Kay County & Western Osage County with spay and neuter services. ![]() It allows qualifying individuals to get their pet spayed/neutered at a reduced cost or even free. Area veterinarians have agreed to work with our programs to help pet owners fix their pet(s) who otherwise couldn’t afford to spay or neuter their companion animals. Our spay/neuter programs focus on combating pet overpopulation in Kay County and Western Osage County through donations. Sterilizing your pet makes him/her a better pet, reducing his/her urge to roam and decreasing the risk of contracting diseases or getting hurt as they roam. Altered animals have a very low to no risk of mammary gland tumors/cancer, prostate cancer, perianal tumors, uterine, ovarian and testicular cancers. Altering your furry friend will increase his/her life an average of 3 to 5 years. Sterilization of your pet will increase his/her chance of a longer and healthier life. Northern Oklahoma along with the entire United States has a severe pet overpopulation problem that results in millions of healthy animals being killed for lack of homes.
